Paul Damon McCourry   “Poppaw” 

November 10 1939—October 26 2022  82 years of life 

This is a name depends who you ask.To me it was Dad, my sister was Daddy and to his grandsons it would only be Poppaw!!  Dad was a man of faith and love!!  Dad was born on November 10, 1939 to Geeter and Belle McCourry in the beautiful mountains of Mitchell County North Carolina. His family raised chickens and logged off the land and dad would do all to give you a hand!! Dad married Berlie Jean Garland and all on their own to Florida it was to fulfill their dreams!!  After some time they were blessed with children!!  First a daughter named Tonya Denise(Toni)(54) and later a son named Shannon Scott (48)!!  Dad began working in a boat factory and with his hard work and his drive he rose to  the top in a few short years becoming  Plant Manager and CEO by having no fears.  Next step wanting to make his own team he started an excavation company like you haven’t seen!! There he secured contracts on commercial scales.  In fact dad was able to land contracts with the #1 & #3 largest home building companies in the U.S.!!  How about that for a chicken farmer from little Mitchell County??  Now it was time to start a new dream and who doesn’t like cable tv??  That’s right Mitchell County man starts his own cable tv company which provided tv services to many apartment complexes and neighborhoods all over central Florida!!  Dad  sold that business in the summer of 1992!!   With most of his dreams fulfilled in his life, his story is larger than life!!  Now it was time to come back home, back home to where it all began, to build a home and settle in. Dad always loved the mountain streams and loved to catch the rainbow dreams!! With his skills many fish he caught and through his love many lessons he taught!!  Dad was later blessed in life with three precious grandsons who gave him new life!!  Zachary (30) a security system technician, Legend (20) a sophomore at UNC WILMINGTON and Marley (16) a rising junior at Mitchell High!!  Dad was a generous and loving man. He had great faith in his Savior, Jesus Christ our Lord and knew where he’d be when he was called home!!  Dad had 82 years on this earth and achieved so many dreams. Now he’s in heaven with our lord up above and he’ll always be watching with his special love!!   It seems like he’s gone to most I would say but I will always feel him in some special way!!  Dad you were so strong and filled with great love and I can’t wait to see you above!!  I love you so much and miss you so bad but in my heart you’re always my dad! Thank you Lord for giving us this man the one who’s name is different to spell but whatever the name he wears it well! Dad,Daddy and Poppaw
