Nellie Cole

Nellie Phillips Cole, 89 of Bakersville, NC went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 12, 2020.

Nellie was born February 21, 1931 in Yancey County, NC, lived in Erwin, TN and moved (with her husband of 68 years) to Mitchell County in the early 1950's.

She was a member of Vians Valley Presbyterian Church and enjoyed reading, working in her flowers and gardening.

Nellie was the daughter of Arthur and Edythe Hensley Phillips. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Milton Cole, son David Cole, granddaughter Amanda Cole, sisters Ruth Phillips, Billie Tipton, Carol Gladden, Polly Wilson, and brothers Alonzo and Jimmy Phillips, and infant brother Bobby Phillips.

She is survived by her sons, Joe Cole (Anne), of Spruce Pine, NC, Robert Cole (Janie) and John Cole (Katie), of Bakersville, NC, sister, Peggy McSwain of Hickory, grandchildren Mark Cole (Laura), Sarah Cole, Adam Cole (Stacie), Shaina (Coty) Burleson, and great grandchildren Cole, Jaiden, Caleb, Gavin, Connor, and Hunter as well as several nieces and nephews and her "Bailey" relatives. Nellie loved all her family and loved their visits.

Nellie was a homemaker and in the early 1980's she earned her GED from Mayland Technical College and went on to receive an Associate Degree in accounting from Mayland. She was proud of theses accomplishments. 

Because of Covid 19, a graveside service will be held on November 14, 2020 at 2:00PM at Slagle Cemetery on John Canipe Rd., Bakersville, NC with Reverends Bill Mitchell and Kent Murphy officiating.

Because of Covid 19 we ask that you bring and wear a mask at the graveside service. Henline -Hughes Funeral Home is assisting the Cole family.
