Mildred Griffith, 96, went peacefully to meet her Lord on Tuesday, January 14th, 2014 at the NHC Nursing Home in Johnson City , TN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Holt Griffith who served 60 years in the ordained ministry where he was the pastor of a number of congregations in the Church of the Brethren. Mildred tirelessly supported his ministry with her time, service and efforts at home as well as church and in the community. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved to sew and garden and loved her roses. Mildred was also preceded in death by her parents, Levi and Bertha Deyton; brothers: Frank and Charles Deyton; sister, Helen Peterson and son in law, Kenneth Tipton.
Mildred leaves behind three daughters: Betty Morgan and husband Richard of Westerly, RI, Linda Tipton of Johnson City and Jane Salyer and husband Hollis of Whiteville, NC; five grandchildren: Rhonda Kaye Miller (Ron) of Johnson City, Tracy Salyer (Sherry) of Suwannee, GA, Chris Salyer (Stacey) of Flagstaff, AZ, Roanna Burnell (Rob) of Langhorne, PA and Owen Morgan of Washington, D.C.; five great grandchildren: Ramey Salyer, Elizabeth Miller, Nate Salyer, Mark Burnell and Abbey Burnell.
Graveside services will be 12:00 Noon Monday January 20, 2014 in the Fairview Cemetery, Green Mtn, NC officiated by Mildred's son in law, Rev. Richard Morgan and her nephew, Ronnie Peterson. A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 19, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the Johnson City Church of the Brethren with Rev. Bo Deaton officiating. Friends are asked to join the family in the church fellowship hall for a dinner to celebrate Mildred's life immediately following the memorial service.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of choice.
