Obituary

Michelle Lynn McFarland Pendley of Spruce Pine, N.C. was born February 4, 1971 and she entered her heavenly home on July 19, 2023. Michelle was the youngest child and the only daughter of James "Jim" McFarland of Burnsville, N.C. and the late Shirley Edwards McFarland Howell, formerly of Yancey County, N.C. She was a precious daughter and sister, and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a treasured cousin, niece, aunt, and friend. Throughout her childhood, she was affectionately named Suzie by her daddy and big brothers, and to many of her closet family members and friends she was, and forever will be, Missy.

Michelle was an extraordinary person, who experienced a miraculous physical healing from God at age 3 and she was always reminded that she was a special gift from God above to her family. Throughout her childhood and into her young adult life, she was a courageous, adventurous soul with a vibrant personality that uplifted all who knew her. As a child, Michelle was a tomboy who loved to tag along behind her daddy and her big brothers, always ready for any challenge or adventure that arose. She loved the freedom of running and playing outside, climbing trees, and keeping up with her older brothers and cousins. Later in her childhood and teenage years, the love of horses and horseback riding that was instilled within her from her father brought her much joy. From her early childhood and throughout her adult life, Michelle loved her family and friends deeply and unconditionally. She was a genuine person who continually expressed understanding and forgiveness to others. Throughout the years of her life, Michelle continued to show resilience and strength, always knowing that God's protective hand was upon her. She often spoke of her love of Jesus and faith and trust in God.

Michelle's role as wife, mother, and grandmother was the most important thing in the world to her. Her husband, children, and grandchildren were the joy and light of her life. They were her daily purpose , pleasure, and encouragement. More than anything, she loved to gather her family at home and prepare their favorite meals. Michelle was creative and artistic and she enjoyed making beautiful gifts for her family and friends as an expression of her love. Her desire was to ensure that family was taken care of.

Michelle's love will live on in the hearts of those who are left to cherish her memories. She is preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Edwards McFarland Howell, her brother Michael McFarland (Angie), brothers, Roger Lee McFarland and James Stanley McFarland, and her precious twin daughters who died at birth. She is survived by her husband Louis Pendley, sons Mitchell McFarland (Mykayla) and Nicholas Pendley (Brianna),; step son Dustin and step daughter Rebecca (Derick); her father, James "Jim" McFarland (Nancy Grindstaff), brother Lee McFarland (Christel); grandchildren Jerrick, Jamison, Kolter, Taylor, Paisley, Ryland, Hayden, Cali, and Cole; special daughter, Summer Miller; and many special aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews, cousins, and close friends.
