Mary (Banks) Garland

Mary Banks Garland age 78 of Hwy 226N Bakersville, NC passed away November 15, 2023. She was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a daughter of the late Glen and Mae Mosley Banks.

She was previously employed with the Mitchell County CAP Program as an in home aide. Mary was a loving lady who was a help to everybody she met. She attended Grace Baptist Church and her hobbies included ginseng hunting, shopping, gardening and sewing. She also loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include one daughter Niki Jones (Dustin), of Spruce Pine, NC, son Scotty Hoilman (Colleen Newburn), of Bakersville, NC, stepson Jamie Butler, of South Carolina, one brother Ronnie Banks, of Bakersville, NC, five sisters: Wanda Hope Yelton, and Josie Garland, both of Bakersville, NC, Thelma Lovelace, of Johnson City, TN, Pearl Yelton (Wade), of Green Mountain, NC, and Diane Farley, of Newland, NC, three grandchildren: Keenan Hoilman, Christina Johnson Hopper (Quantez), and Shay Jones, two great grandchildren Landon and LJ Surratt, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Ray Garland, three sisters: Helen Yelton, Myrtle Butler, Ethel Hoilman, and brothers Edmond Banks, Russell Banks, and Marshall Banks, and a stepson Mark Butler.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 2:00PM at Malone Gouge Cemetery.
