Kirk Leslie Young

Kirk Leslie Young, age 71, passed from this life into his eternal home on Christmas Day, December 25, 2020.  Born Aug. 3, 1949, he was the son of the late Warren and Mabel Masters Young of Newdale.  He is survived by his cherished bride of forty years, Patricia Glass Young and daughter Sonya Leonard and husband Norman of Asheville, NC, two brothers: Fritz Young and wife Joy, Eric Young and wife Teresa, all of Newdale, NC.  He is also survived by nieces and nephews: Emily Hopson and husband Adam, Sara Valverde and husband Mauricio, Seth Young and wife Jordan; and great-niece, Abigail Valverde.

Kirk graduated NC State University with a BS degree in Materials Engineering and completed course work for a master’s degree.  After 15 years working in the engineering field, he launched a successful career in plastic sales for Hoechst-Celanese Corporation.

Kirk was academically gifted with interest ranging from botany and geology to history and art.  As an avid reader he possessed an extensive and unique library.  During the last years of his life he spent much time studying the bible.  Kirk was an enthusiastic outdoorsman and loved the land he called home in Western, NC.  However, Kirk’s greatest enjoyment in life was time spent with his family and friends.

Kirk was a member of West Burnsville Baptist Church and had a deep love for his Lord and savior.

The family would like to extend gratitude to Hospice & Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge for their compassionate care during the last month of his life.  Special thanks to nurses Rebecca Hensley and Jamie Snell, both of whom were present at his death.

A private memorial service and burial will be held Sunday, January 3rd at Faith Fellowship Church in Newdale, NC.  The reverend(s) David Gillespie and Ricky Ray will officiate.  The family desires in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to:  Hospice & Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge, 236 Hospital Drive, Spruce Pine, NC 28777 or Tri-County Christian School, 207 Pinebridge Ave Spruce Pine, NC 2877.  The family is grateful for the service of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home during this time.
