Kathy Rosa Sparks, 60, of Bakersville, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Ralph and Stacy Garland Barnett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Dempsey Barnett.

Survivors include her husband, Claude Lewis Sparks of Bakersville; son, Paul Newton Jr of Bakersville; sister, Norma Jean Carver of Spruce Pine; brother, Britt Barnett of Roan Mtn, TN; and two grandchildren: Jesse Paul Alvin Newton and Allen Colt Newton.

Funeral services will be 2 :00 pm Friday, December 27, 2013 in the chapel of Henline-Hughes with Pastor Randy English officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Garland Cemetery .
