John Wesley Stockton “Jay”
August 14, 1938 - September 20, 2023
Jay Stockton passed away peacefully at his home in Bakersville, at the age of 85. During his illness he was surrounded and cared for by his wife, son, grandchildren and their spouses.
He was preceded in death by his father Earl Stockton; his mother Bessie (Honeycutt) Stockton; son, Danny Lee Stockton; sisters, Mary Higgins, Wilma Garland, and Kathleen Silvers.
Jay worked very hard all his life to support his family. He farmed tobacco, logged and worked at sawmills all while raising cattle, putting up hay and tending to his own farm.
Survivors include: wife of 70 years - Jacquline (Stevens) Stockton; one son - John Douglas Stockton of Bakersville; 4 grandchildren - John Christopher Stockton (Christie), Brandy Stockton English (Chad), Rebecca Rae Woody (Adam) all of Bakersville, and Carrie Lynn McCann (Steven) of Loganville, Ga; 7 great grandchildren - Krista Marie Stockton, Ayden Wyatt Woody, Gracie LeAnne English, Mayce Rae Woody all of Bakersville, Noah Matthew McCann, Dannie Caroline McCann and Abbott Steven McCann all of Loganville, Ga.
At his request, there will be a private graveside service with his immediate family. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Hospice and Home Care of the Blue Ridge in his memory. Jay’s family would like to say a special thank you to the members of the Hospice team. They went above and beyond to care for him and showed tremendous compassion and kindness.
