James (Jim) Edward Brannigan, 83, passed away Friday, January 14, 2011, at his home surrounded by family. Jim, was born on June 25, 1927 in Dannemora, New York. He was a loving husband and devoted father. Everyone knew him as Big Jim.
He was an active member of the community. He loved to volunteer at the hospital (BRRH). He was an avid supporter of the Spruce Pine Volunteer Fire Department and a member of St. Lucien Catholic Church. Jim served in the Navy during WW II. He was an accomplished grant writer helping to further develop government and education.
Survivors include the love of his life, Betty; daughter Christina; sons – John, Jim, Tom and Jeff. He was preceded in death by his son Bobby. He had 14 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and friends that loved him.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the Commerce Center, 31 Cross St, Spruce Pine with Father Christopher Gober officiating A celebration of life will follow. Fond memories will be shared from family and friends.
