Henry Fredrick Boone

         On Friday, February 5, 2021, Henry Fredrick Boone, child of God, loving husband for 57 years to Joyce and cherished father to Kirk, went home to be with his Lord and Savior where he received his first wonderful breath of Heaven, that beautiful destination of which he dreamed.

         Henry was born on November 28, 1939 to Fred T. and Lela Sparks Boone of Rebels Creek Community, Mitchell County, NC. He graduated from Bowman High School in Bakersville in 1957, served  his country in the US Army for three years, stationed in Germany, and later continued his education at ETSU.

         Henry was preceded in death by an infant son, Samuel Jess, by his father Fred; his mother Lela; sisters: Faye (Jim); Mary Lou (Howard); Helen (Frank); Mae (Frank Ray) and a brother, Harold (Mildred).

         Henry is survived by his wife, Joyce; son, Kirk and wife Miranda; cherished grandchildren: Kyla, Abby Mae, and John Henry; sister, Betty Jo Gordan; brother-in-law, Frank Ray Jarrett; sister and brother-in-law, Janey and R.J. Thompson, and a 3 generational host of beloved nieces and nephews.

         Henry was a devoted Volunteer Fireman and faithfully served his community in this capacity for 20 years in the Ledger Volunteer Fire Department where he held the office of Chaplain.

         Henry and his son Kirk cycled together for many years as sponsors for the N.C. MS Society, raising financial support for and awareness of Multiple Sclerosis.

         Henry had also been a member of Spruce Pine Kiwanis with his delight having been participation in their Public-School reading program where he found great joy reading aloud to first graders throughout Mitchell County.

          A member of Bear Creek Baptist Church for fifty years, Henry had served as Sunday School Superintendent, Co-Director and Sunday School teacher of the youth programs, and later,  Sunday School teacher for 20 years in the Adult 

Men's Class. Henry was also instrumental in organizing and orchestrating the first year of the BCBC Men's Prayer Breakfast Ministry.

         For ten years Henry was employed with his father in the local mining industry, after which he operated a blacksmith business as well as a home decorating service. Henry retired in 2001, after working as a correctional officer for the State of North Carolina, where he earned numerous service awards.

         Henry enjoyed sharing stories regarding the deep love and appreciation he had for his mountain life and  family heritage. He found great happiness in studying God's Word with his Men's Sunday School Class where Chris Helms, Lonnie Speight and Terry Eplee served as teachers; traveling , walking in nature, fishing, hunting, and talking and laughing with friends were also among Henry's joys in life.

         Private funeral services will be held now, with a Celebration of Life honoring Henry to be announced later.
