Harry “Bud” Bosley Byers 95, of Bakersville, NC. went to be with his Lord, December 11th, 2022.
Bud was born July 19th, 1927, in Smithfield, PA. to Edward Wagner and Phyllis Byers.
Bud devoted a great portion of his life working for and eventually retiring from Dexter Chemical Company in Charlotte, NC. He was a resident there for 42 years and it was there that he met Lillie, his beloved wife of 53 years. In that community they attended Central Church of God and as residents of Bakersville, were long time members of Liberty Covenant Church in Newdale, NC.
Lillie Young Byers 92, of Bakersville N.C. went to be with her Lord Tuesday, June 6th, 2023.
Lillie was born January 29th, 1931, in Bakersville, N.C., to Roby and Nora Young, where she was one of 6 children. She graduated from Bowman High School and worked as a telephone operator for a short while in Bakersville and Kingsport, TN. She moved to Charlotte where she lived for over 30 years and was employed as a medical secretary for Memorial Hospital and Charlotte Urology where she retired after 28 years.
In scripture (Philippians 4:8) St. Paul admonished his fellow Christians “to think upon these things”: whatever is excellent, true, honorable, pure, just, and lovely. Through the grace of their Lord, Lillie and Bud not only thought upon them, but translated this admonition into their life’s foundation.
There was also their deep devotion to each other. Bud treasured Lillie as the love of his life. Together they dwelt in kindness, sustaining love, good humor that crackled with fun, abiding relationships with others, a spirit of mentoring, total reliability, and a deep gratitude for life itself. We all have memories of Bud sweeping his arm to point to Lillie’s brother and sisters declaring “This is MY family!”
Generosity undergirded their lives. Bud was a wonderful carpenter and creative woodworker, sharing his artistry with so many friends and family that his workmanship can be found just about everywhere! He also happily delighted youngsters and family members with his rendition of Santa Claus, and Bud’s culinary skills were not lacking either!
Lillie was lovely, steadfast in her faith, and full of grace. She was an amazing cook and made simple things beautiful and delicious. She had the gift of initiating friendships and refreshing their existence. She prayed. Always. Always.
It was visible too, that courage and patience also marked their journey through life, it was seen in the daily grind of relentless illnesses borne by them both.
Lillie and Bud knew the Lord in this life; now there is eternal knowing.
Bud is survived by his extended family and many friends.
Lillie is survived by her two sisters, Mary Anna Whitson of Bakersville, N.C. and Jean Dale of Denver, N.C. as well as nieces, nephews, many extended family members, and friends.
