DATELINE; Bakersville, NC

Gladys Jean Hughes, age 70 of Perkins Rd,  the Buladean Community passed away August 12, 2013 at her home. She was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a daughter of the late David and Nora Francis Garland. She was a member of St. Paul Freewill Baptist Church. She was a CNA Caregiver; and also a Bank Teller for many years with Northwestern Bank.

Survivors include; her husband Hanford G. Hughes, of the home, sons; Micheal "Mike" W. Hughes and wife Sherry, and Richard "Mark" M. Hughes and wife Angel, all of Bakersville, NC, two sisters; Betty L. Webb and Beatrice Garland, also of Bakersville, NC, two brothers; Reverend David Garland, of Burnsville, NC and Roy Shephard, of Florida, four grandchildren; Michelle Hobson, Kimberly, Matthew, and Aaron Hughes, and three great grandchildren; Addison Hobson, Chloe and Courtney Hughes.

She was preceded in death by; her sisters; Mary Shephard, Ruby Hughes and Martha Garland.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 13, 2013 from 6:00PM until 8:00PM in St. Paul Freewill Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 2:00PM in St. Paul Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Gordon Lewis and Rev. David Garland officiating. Interment will follow at Hughes Cemetery (Blevins Branch Rd.).
