Gary Leonard Miller was born on June 22, 1946, the son of the late Jack Leonard and Vertie Ledford Miller, in Baltimore, Md. He spent much of his youth in Baltimore County with cherished summer vacation time in the Bakersville, NC area with his grandparents Smith and Geneva Ledford. He attended Kenwood High School in Baltimore. He then sought employment in North Carolina where he worked a construction job. He returned to Baltimore to accept a job with the Sparrows Point Ship Yard. Gary worked at Sparrows Point for 30 years as an shipyard laborer until he retired. During those years he met his wife, Margaret Peterson. They were married in 1984 and celebrated 36 years together raising their 2 daughters Tina Peterson Schuch and Stacy Peterson Wood. After retiring, Gary and Margaret resided at their home in Middle River, Md for 25 years until they relocated to Stokesdale, NC in 2014 to be closer to other family members who had returned to the state of his family origin.
