Frank Wyatt Obituary

Frank Michael Wyatt, died Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Mission Hospital in Asheville after a courageous battle with COVID. He was 70.

Frank was native of Yancey County and a graduate of East Yancey High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and Professional Writing from Western Carolina University.

During the 1960-80s, he was an on-air personality at WWCU Campus Radio at Cullowhee, WKYK Radio in Burnsville, and later at WLOS-FM in Asheville. Frank was an audio engineer for the Christian music group Sold Out to Jesus and wrote and produced a weekly syndicated Contemporary Christian Music radio program called “Bringing the Message.”

Frank was an instructor of Computer Engineering Technology at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College for over 30 years. He was a past principal of Tri-County Christian School in Spruce Pine, a consultant on Computer Engineering Technology with numerous Asheville area industries, and in addition to his teaching/administrative duties, Frank and his family owned and operated Living Waters Campground near Bakersville, NC.

An ordained Christian minister, Frank pastored Faith Fellowship Church, Newdale, and later established and pastored Liberty Covenant Church in Micaville. He served for years on the board of High Pastures Christian Retreat and Conference Center and was also instrumental in organizing both Burnsville’s March for Jesus and Prayer on The Square events. His Christian legacy will live on in those he christened, baptized, taught, mentored, loved, prayed for, and befriended.

Most of all Frank would want to be known as a loving husband of 45 years, a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Janet and son Micah of the home, his son Josh and daughter-in-law Felicia, and grandson Andrew. He was also looking forward to welcoming his new granddaughter-in-law, Lexi to the family in the coming weeks. Besides his immediate family, Frank is survived by a sister, Joy Young, and husband Fritz, and a brother, Robert (Benny) and wife Glenda, nieces Melissa McCurry and Samantha Fender. And he enjoyed his pet rabbit, Jack-Jack.

A celebration of Frank’s life will be held at Liberty Covenant Church in Micaville on Wednesday, April 14, at 2 PM. Burial will be at Faith Fellowship Cemetery on Champ Ray Road in Newdale. We ask that those attending the service bring and wear a mask due to Covid.

The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers donations be made to either Mercy Chefs, Inc., Portsmouth, Virginia - https://mercychefs.com/donation/ , or the Western Carolina Rescue Mission in Asheville - https://www.westerncarolinarescue.org/online-giving.
