Florence Mullinnix of Bakersville passed peacefully at the Solace Center Hospice facility in Asheville on Wednesday, November 2nd. Florence was born on June 30, 1921 in St. Petersburg, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband William (Pete) Mullinnix, five siblings and her parents Charles and Pearl Townsend.
Surviving are three children, Pat Wilson (Harper) of Bakersville; Bill (Deborah) Mullinnix of Bossier City, LA; and Lynn Rowan of Houston, TX. Grandchildren are William Kyle, Kristine Braddock, and Courtney Stephenson. There are eight great grandchildren.
Florence was a member of Bakersville Baptist Church and a former member of the Red Hats Society, and Mitchell County Homemakers Group. She loved gardening, cooking, reading, the beach, her church family, visiting with friends and traveling.
At 101 years old Florence maintained her interest in current affairs and world events. She especially enjoyed the Autumn colors provided this year and cheered her LSU football team as she watched their games on television. When Florence was asked what her secret was to her long life, as she often was, her response was that she never drank alcohol, smoked but more importantly she had a wonderful husband and three great children.
Throughout her life Florence touched those around her with love, inspiration and compassion. She spent her 101 years in St. Petersburg, FL; Vicksburg, MS; Metairie, LA; Bakersville, NC; Houston, TX; and Bakersville again.
