Douglas Arthur Hobson

          Douglas Arthur Hobson, 74, of the Fork Mountain Community, Bakersville, NC died peacefully on November 18, 2021 after a lengthy illness.

          He was the son of the late Arthur Ivan and Kate Burleson Hobson and was a lifelong resident of Mitchell County except for two years in the military. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army serving a year in Vietnam.

          He was an expert fisherman, hunter and gardener although fishing was his passion.

          He worked many different jobs through the years, finally retiring in 2011 from Unimin Corp.

          Doug was a member of the Cloudland Baptist Church. He was a hard working Christian man who served God, his family, his country and anyone in need.

          In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Mitchell Hobson in 1991, five sisters, Carolyn Hobson, Millie Ann Smith, Vivian Peterson, Sandra Greene, and Francis Nelle Willis and a nephew, Ricky Honeycutt.

          Left to miss him and cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Mary Ellen Canipe Hobson; a brother, Cecil Hobson and wife Mary; a special cousin and friend, Charles Herman Hobson; sister in law, Polly Jones; niece, Sally Shultz; and several cousins, nieces and nephews, and many friends.

          Services for Doug will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 20, 2021 in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Silvers and Rev. Kenneth Murphy officiating, including military honors provided by the DAV Sgt E.L. Randolph Chapter 57. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Everyone is welcome to attend. Burial will follow in the Hobson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Solace-Hospice Care Center, 68 Sweeten Creek Rd, Asheville, NC 28801.
