David Smith Buchanan

David Smith Buchanan, age 65, of Red Wood Road, Bakersville, NC went home to be with the Lord December 17, 2021. He was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a son of the late Phillip and Elenore McKinney Buchanan. He was self employed as a carpenter and a craftsman. David was a caretaker at Linville Ridge and also helped build the Linville Viaduct. He enjoyed sports and was an avid NASCAR fan. He was a good gardener and loved to collect Indian artifacts. He especially loved his family and spending time with them.

Survivors include: former wife Tina Boston, of Spruce Pine, NC, one daughter Christi Buchanan (Buzz Hefner), of Spruce Pine, NC, two sisters; Sharon Garden (Charles), of Morganton, NC, and Caroline Honeycutt (Tim), of Bakersville, NC, one brother Denny Buchanan (Louise), of Bakersville, NC, one grandchild Niko Gates, many nieces and nephews, and a special friend Joann Townsend.

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by one brother Phillip Allen Buchanan.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at 2:00PM in Roan Mountain Baptist Church with Reverends Russell McKinney and Mark McKinney officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Green Young Cemetery.
