Corinne (Callahan) Canipe

Dateline: Marion, NC

Corinne Callahan Canipe, age 92, formerly of Bakersville, NC went home to be with the Lord on July 7, 2017. She was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a daughter of the late Stokes and Ida Thomas Callahan. She was a member of Cub Creek Baptist Church.

Corinne was employed for 21 years at Bakersville Motel and Restaurant, where she served as a housekeeper and cook. Corinne was an avid gardener, growing and preserving vegetables and sharing flower "cuttings" with friends and neighbors. She loved to quilt and crochet always gifting friends and family with her beautiful creations. She also enjoyed reading and solving word puzzles.

Her family, especially the grandchildren were the joy in her life. She delighted in "spoiling" them, having them visit, tucking them in at night with bedtime stories that became known as "rat tales". Many cherished memories were created and will be treasured and shared for generations to come.

Survivors include: one son, James Canipe and wife Marjorie Young Canipe, of Marion, NC; one daughter, Pamela Cirillo, of Mount Laurel, NJ; five grandchildren, Brent Canipe, of Marion, Samuel Canipe, of Florence, SC, Dawn Randolph Bakely and husband Daniel, of Turnersville, NJ, Kindel Randolph, of Mount Laurel, NJ, and April Randolph, of Northumberland, PA; four great grandchildren, Nicholas Cortese and wife Marissa, of Freehold, NJ, Beth Canipe, of Marion, and Madeline and Seth Bakely, of Turnersville, NJ; one great great grandson, Jack Randolph Cortese, of Freehold, NJ; one brother, Charlie Callahan, of Kingsport, TN, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, George Canipe; brothers, John and Mack Callahan; and sisters, Lily Bailey, Esther Boone, and Hattie Thomas.

A celebration of life will be held Monday, July 10, 2017 at 2:00PM in the chapel of Henline - Hughes Funeral Home with Mike Peterson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Bailey Cemetery (John Sparks Rd).
