Colonel Bill Ledford

Colonel Bill Ledford, age 94, of the Fork Mountain Community, Bakersville, NC passed away peacefully in his home on October 30, 2021. Born September 17, 1927 Bill served a short period of time in The United States Navy. He was a member of Fork Mountain Church of the Lord Jesus Christ.  A son of the late Cart and Birtie Ingram Ledford. Bill was previously employed as a heavy equipment operator. He worked for Glen L Martin Aircraft Company (Baltimore Md), Nell O Twer (Asheville, NC), Jack McKinney Construction Company (Gloucester Va), Brown Gardner Construction (Bakersville, NC), and American Thread Company (Marion, NC) until his retirement.

Bill's greatest joy in life was his wife of 62 years. His life was dedicated to God and taking care of his family. He enjoyed many hobbies which included working on his vintage cars, gardening, and farming. He also loved buying, trading and raising horses and cattle.

Survivors include two daughters: Rhonda Miller, of Johnson City, TN, and Jewel Ledford Cook, of Erwin, TN, four sons: David Ledford, Timothy Ledford, Matthew Ledford, Jeffery Chad Ledford, all of Bakersville, NC, and ten grandchildren.

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by: his wife of 62 years Anna Mae Childers Ledford, one sister Lena Greene, and three brothers; Mason, CL, and Buford Ledford, and a special son in law Roger Miller.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 4, 2021, at 7:00PM in Fork Mountain Church of The Lord Jesus Christ, with Doug Honeycutt, G.B. Garland and Andy Willis officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Interment will be Friday, November 5, 2021 at 1:00PM at Fork Mountain Cemetery.
