Burton Cecil Woody

Burton Cecil Woody, age 80, of Bakersville, NC, the Cane Creek Community, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 9th, 2023 following bypass surgery at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC. He was a graduate of Bowman High School. Burton was the son of the late  Roe and Ina Woody. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Street whom he loved dearly.

Burton was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved working outdoors and being out in nature looking for ginseng. From being a Nationwide Insurance Agent, a lumberjack, and a bail bondsman, he had a love for helping people and always making them laugh with his many sayings.

Left to cherish his memories are his son, Chucky Woody and his daughter Sherry Dixon of Bakersville; his former wife, Sue Woody of Bakersville; 3 brothers who he would meet the first Friday of every month to have breakfast and to catch up, Delaney Woody (Cleo) of Spruce Pine, NC, Bruce Woody (Sally) of Bakersville and Mike Woody (Belinda) of Burnsville, NC; grandsons, Briley Dixon, Ethan Dixon, and Joshua Dixon of Sioux City, IA;  great granddaughters, Ivy and Mya Dixon; and numerous cousins and many friends.and numerous nieces, nephews, and a special friend Joyce Guinn.

Funeral services will be Sunday, November 19, 2023 at 3:00 PM in the Roan Mountain Baptist Church with Pastor Russell McKinney and Rev. Don Stafford officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow on  Monday at 2:00 in the Cane Creek Cemetery along side his sister and parents. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Briley, Ethan and Joshua Dixon, also Adam Woody and Jennings and Justin Greene.
