Do you want to take a trip? Are you tired of this troubled world? Then pack your suitcase for heaven. That's what Azelene Robinson did this past weekend. She packed her purple suitcase and was ready to go on this trip for which she had long planned. Her grandson, Bryan Young, gave her the purple suitcase years ago and was awaiting her arrival.
Early on Tuesday morning, August 17, 2021, Azelene was at home with her daughter Cathy Gorman and peacefully fell asleep into the arms of her Lord and Savior. She was richly blessed with 95 years and one week on this earth.
Azelene's journey began in the mountains of Mitchell county on August 10, 1926 when Jesse and Rosa Grindstaff welcomed their daughter, Mildred Azelene Grindstaff, into this world. Azelene loved being part of a large, thriving family. Her 6 brothers are Rom, Lawrence, Lee, Vernon, Claude and Jack Grindstaff. Her 2 sisters are Hazel Yelton and Linnie Effler. Azelene was the last remaining member of the Grindstaff family. She missed her family and yearned to see them again. In the past few weeks, Azelene received visits from her sisters and brothers. She would often share the mischief of the Grindstaffs. What fun they had !
Azelene married the love of her life, Kenneth C. Robinson and together they raised 7 children while living most of those years in the Bakersville area. Their 4 daughters are Peggy King (James), Barbara Branch (Danny), Cathy Gorman (Harold) and Marty Robinson. Their 3 sons are Jerry Robinson (Barbie), Garry Robinson (Rhonda), and Terry Robinson (Pam). Kenneth entered heaven on March 3, 2000.
The journey didn't stop there. Kenneth and Azelene became grandparents 10 times and deeply loved each one of their "grand" children. The grandchildren are Bryan Young, Leon King, Millie King, Michelle Cheatham, Elizabeth Throckmorton, April Gray, Heather Anderson, TJ Robinson, Bryce
Robinson and Chase Jackson.
Great "grand" children include Madison, Ashley, Austin, Olivia, Charity, Zeke, Harvey, Zachary, Ethan, Emily and Ben. A great great grandchild includes Amelia.
Azelene's immediate family will honor her memory at a private service at 1:00 pm Friday, August 20, 2021 in the chapel of Henline Hughes in Bakersville, NC. Dean Presnell will minister to the family.
Friends and relatives of Azelene are invited to the graveside service which will take place at Mine Creek cemetery following the private service.
Pallbearers are honored to carry Azelene to her final resting place. They include Leon King, Chase Jackson, T.J. Robinson, Bryce Robinson, Barry Queen and Thomas Cheatham.
As you continue your journey here on earth, be sure to pack your suitcase for heaven and be prepared to take the trip of your life!!
John 3:16. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
