Zula Barnett Yelton, age 78, of the Fork Mountain Community, Bakersville, NC passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2022 in the Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Ray and Mary Peterson Barnett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Phillip Dwayne Bennett, sister, Josephine Barnett, brother, Noah Barnett, and step son, John Yelton.

Zula was a member of the Church of the Brethren. She loved gardening and quilting and always kept her lawn looking beautiful. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, J.B. Yelton; son, Wendell Bennett and wife Vicki of Unicoi, TN; brothers: Tony Barnett, Coy Barnett, Clay Barnett (Maybelline), Owen Barnett (Judy), Embert Barnett (Sandra), and Lindsey Barnett (Jean); sisters: Trula Yelton, Zora Barnett, Opal Jones (Carson), Frances Gouge, Barbara Miller (Larry), Oma Jones (Dennis), Mable Robison, and Otehia Hollifield (Ricky); grandchildren: Katelynn Bennett, Caleb Bennett, and Landon Bennett; step children: Sherry Lynn Reece, Jeffery Yelton and Curtis Reece; step grandchild, Brittany Schrodshire and many nieces and nephews including a special niece, Deborah Rapp.

Private funeral services will be held for the family on Friday, January 28, 2022 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home with Revs. Randy Wise, Ricky Hollifield and Mark McKinney officiating. Burial will follow in the Mosley Cemetery, Bowman Road, where everyone is welcome to attend.
