William Hopper Coleman, Jr., (Bill), age 91 of Spruce Pine, NC died peacefully Saturday, December 19, at his home. Bill was born and raised in Culver City, California. He was predeceased by his father, Dr. Will H. Coleman and his son, William Coleman, III. He was retired from a career in sales and business administration after serving in the US Navy during WWII and the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Subsequently, he was with the CA Parks Dept. as a senior guide at Hearst Castle, San Simeon, CA. He and his wife moved to Spruce Pine in 2003.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Loui Cox Coleman, formerly of High Point, NC; a twin sister, Wilma Applegate of Hemet, CA, and her family. Also surviving are his step children; Loui Powers, her husband Jeff, and granddaughter, Caroline of Jamestown, NC and Ed Freeze, his wife Rhonda, and grandsons Wilson, of CO, and Brandon Freeze of Hickory, NC, as well as his adopted families of Jonathan and Emille Cox, John and Ellen Freeze, and the late Steven Cox.
A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Spruce Pine on Wednesday, December 30, at 1:00PM, The Rev. Rich Biega will be officiating. Bill's family is extremely grateful to the many friends in Spruce Pine, and everyone at Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge, for the loving care Bill received prior to his death.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials go to Trinity Episcopal Church, 15 Hemlock Ave., Spruce Pine, NC 28777, or to Hospice of The Blue Ridge, 236 Hospital Drive., Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
