Obituary

Wanda Sue “Susie” Boston Owens, age 72, of the Bear Creek Community, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026, and entered into the embrace of the Lord. Born in Mitchell County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Dorothy Carpenter Boston.

Susie devoted her life to caring for others as a Certified Nursing Assistant, serving with dedication at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital, Brian Center Health and Rehab, and through private home care. Her compassion, gentle spirit, and unwavering kindness left a lasting impression on all those she served.

Susie was a member of Berry Chapel Baptist Church. She found her greatest joy in her family. She had a heart that was deeply rooted in love, always putting others before herself and making sure those around her felt cared for and cherished. Whether it was a trip to the beach, a holiday gathering, or simply sitting together at home, Susie treasured every moment spent with her loved ones. Her family was her pride and joy, and she found true happiness in being surrounded by them.

She also had a deep love for animals, especially her dogs, whom she cared for as if they were her own children. Susie found peace and joy in the simple beauty of nature, spending time feeding the hummingbirds around her home and watching the baby deer that often visited.

She is survived by her loving husband, Denver Owens; her son, Samuel King Early and his wife, Amy; her step-son, Andy Pendley; sisters, Marie Ledford and Judy Burleson; sister-in-law, Brenda Boston; brother-in-law, Clifford Owens; along with a host of beloved nieces and nephews, and several cherished great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, Susie was preceded in death by her sisters, Ruth Pittman and Roberta “Sparky” Nanney; and her brothers, Bill Carpenter, Phillip Carpenter, and Jack Boston; and a nephew, Jason Boston.

A funeral service to honor Susie’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Snow Hill Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Dean Honeycutt and Pastor Greg Hollifield. Friends and family are invited to gather one hour prior to the service. Susie will be laid to rest at Lily Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice and Home Care of the Blue Ridge for the compassionate care provided to Susie during her final days.
