Walter Whitson, age 96 of Big Brush Creek Rd, Green Mountain, NC went home to be with the Lord, November 26, 2016 . He was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a son of the late David and Rissa Webb Whitson.

He was a member of Peterson Chapel Freewill Baptist Church where he served as deacon for 42 years. He was a farmer and enjoyed hunting, and outdoor activities. Walter especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include: his children; Reverend Roy Whitson (Nancy), of Green Mountain, NC, Ray C. Whitson (Brenda), of Unicoi, TN, Reverend Donald Whitson (Ramona), of Dandridge, TN, and Brenda Bryant, of Burnsville, NC, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren with whom he had a very special relationship with, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by; his wife Mary Whitson, his son; Larry Whitson, two sisters, and one brother.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 28, 2016 at 1:00PM in the chapel of Henline - Hughes Funeral Home with Reverend Roy Whitson and Reverend Donald Whitson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Whitson Family Cemetery ( Big Brush Creek Rd ).
