Vilas Jean Whitson, age 68, of Burnsville, NC passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of the late Bill and Pearl Buchanan Hall. She loved her grandchildren and she also enjoyed loafiering and yard sales and loved to cook for everyone. She also loved her dog, Little Bit. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters: Linda Hicks, Naomi Hoilman and Carolyn Stewart and brothers: Bill "Tunnie" Hall and Charles Hall.

Survivors include her husband Earnest E. Whitson of the home; sons: Eddie Whitson and wife Sherri of Burnsville and Brian Whitson and wife Kristie of Spruce Pine; sisters: Kathy "Jo" McKinney of Marion and Patricia "Pat" Gardner of Lenoir; brothers: Bud Hall of Black Mtn and Walter "Ray" Hall of Lenoir;  grandchildren: Derek Whitson ((Ashley),  Austin Whitson, Jacob Whitson,  step grandchildren; Jennifer Woody and Paige Gibbs (Luke);  great grandchildren: Kolby Whitson, Jaxson Whitson, step great grandchildren; Chace Autrey, Caden Autrey, and Sawyer Gibbs; and her special friend, Martha Sparks; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 4:00 PM Sunday, March 15, 2020 in the Crabtree Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Dallas Renfro officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
