Vance Zebulon McKinney, 86, of the Cane Creek Community, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at his home. He was the son of the late Zebulon Vance and Lilly Wilson McKinney and the husband of the late Louise Young McKinney.

Vance graduated Bowman High School and served in the US Navy. He started his career as a florist with Wilson Florist in Spruce Pine, then worked with Rubys Flowers and later owned and operated Flowers by Vance in Burnsville for a total of 51 years. He then co-owned Bakersville Flowers and Gifts with his son Keith.

Survivors include sons; Kevin Vance McKinney and wife Rebecca of Bakersville, Gregory Y. McKinney and wife Gwen of Weaverville and Keith B. McKinney of Bakersville; grandchildren: Stacie Johnson (Marty), Natalie Metzger (Matthew), Caitlyn McKinney, Jenny McKinney and Kelly McKinney; great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Zeb Johnson; life long friend, Charles Stamey Jr. Vance was preceded in death, in addition to his parents and wife, a daughter in law, Jill McKinney; seven brothers: Isom, Vernon, Jesse, Haran, Welzie, Virgil and Arthur; sister, Argie McKinney.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Friday, June 26, 2015 at Roan Mtn Baptist Church of which he was a member and served as a deacon for 60 plus years. Tim Fowler and Mark McKinney will officiate. Burial will follow in the Green Young Cemetery . The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Thursday at the church.
