Thelma B. Ayers, age 91, of George McKinney Rd, Bakersville, NC went home to be with the Lord November 9, 2017. She was a native of Mitchell County, NC and the daughter of the late Zephy Arnold and Mertie Freeman Buchanan. She was a member of McKinney Cove Baptist Church.

Survivors include: three sons; James Ayers (Debbie), of Vancouver, Washington, Johnny Ayers (Josie), of Ridgecrest, California, and Keith Ayers (Sandra), of Bakersville, NC, three brothers; Jim Buchanan, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Carlos and George Buchanan, both of Bakersville, NC, 20 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and eight great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death in addition to her parents by her husband, James Edgar Ayers, and brothers, Mack, Cleone, Albert, and Arthur.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 3:00PM in McKinney Cove Baptist Church with Pastor Todd Ayers officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Hospice and Palliative Care of The Blue Ridge, 236 Hospital Drive Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
