Shirley Bennett Hughes, age 69 of Hwy 197 North, Green Mountain, NC passed away March 8, 2016. She was a native of Mitchell County, NC. She was a member of Bailey Fundamental Brethren Church, and was retired as a Private Duty CNA.

Survivors include: her father; Lee Bennett, of Green Mountain, NC, her husband; Dennis W. Hughes, two daughters; Pamela Hughes Alford, of Jonesborough, TN, and Sherry Hughes McKinney, of Spruce Pine, NC, one son; John Hughes, of Green Mountain, NC, one brother; Bobby Bennett, of Green Mountain, NC, five grandchildren; Dexter Boone, Sam Alford, Adam Alford, Dane McKinney, and Addison Hughes.

She was preceded in death by her mother Ruth Bennett.

A private graveside service will be held.
