Roger "Sherwood" Gouge, 92 years old, of the Cane Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday evening, March 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 2nd, 1931. He was preceded in death by his parents, W.O. "Bill" and Fearol Woody Gouge and his sister Maxie and her husband Warren Buchanan.

Sherwood is survived by his loving wife Linda Hoilman Gouge of 43 years; his daughter Giovanna Peterson and husband Phillip of Mt Holly, NC and son, Roger Gouge Jr. and wife Nancy of Rutherford, NC; 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchildren, and 3 step grandchildren; special nephews, Jeff Young and Tommy Buchanan.

Sherwood retired from the US Postal Service with 34 years of service driving over one million miles without an accident. During that time he was the president of the US Rural Letter Carries Association of NC.

Sherwood served in the US Navy 4 years during the Korean War and he was a member of Cloudland Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be 7:00 PM Tuesday, March 5, 2024 in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Rev. Randy Wise and Andy Burleson will officiate. Burial will be 11:00 AM Wednesday in the Fork Mtn Cemetery.
