Phyllis J. Buchanan, age 69  of Bakersville passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at her home. A native of Mercer, NJ, she was the daughter of John F. Goodwin of Bakersville and the late Marion Louise Ferguson Goodwin.

Survivors include her husband, Donald L. Buchanan of Bakersville; daughter, Michelle Harkness and husband Thomas of New Jersey; son, Michael Burkhart and wife Teresa of Maryland; brother, Jack Goodwin of Bakersville; grandson, Michael Burkhart; niece, Annamarie; step children, Shane Buchanan and wife Heather, Melissa Byrd and David Yelton; step grandchildren, Kaeleigh, Tabor, and Hudson Buchanan, Dillon and Dustin Byrd, Kyle and Nicholas Yelton.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am Thursday, December 24, 2015 in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home with Chris Rathbone officiating. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, December 28, 2015 in the Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton, NJ. Memorials may be made to the Mitchell County Animal Rescue, 2492 19E hwy, Spruce Pine , NC 28777 or Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge , 236 Hospital Drive , Spruce Pine , NC 28777 .
