Phillip Ray Norman, 56 of Spruce Pine, NC passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, May 15, 2022 at his home. Born on August 24, 1965, he was the son on the Late Phil Norman and Betty Norman. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two sisters in law, Audrey Carpenter and Carolyn Carpenter whom he considered his sisters. Phillip is survived by his wife, Paula Carpenter Norman; his mother, Betty G. Norman; two sisters, Rita Smith (Leonard) and Susan Hopson (Scott); one niece, Sabrina Rosenbaum (Matt) and four nephews, Darron Hughes (Tiffany), Jody Stevens (Samii), Jamie Stevens (Priscilla), and Andrew "AJ" Smith (Ashley); three great nephews, Connor Rosenbaum, Greyson Smith, and Jamison Stevens and two great nieces, Arwen and Eowyn Hudgins.
Phillip had endured several years of illness and finally found release when the Lord took him home. He was a good and kind man who was devoted to and dearly loved his wife of 36 years. He also loved his fur babies, Frodo Baggins and Kizzy Ann who gave him lots of comfort and love during his illness. Phillip was an avid gardener and outdoorsman who inherited his greenest of thumbs from his father and could grow anything he put in the ground, which was a gift of God. Phillip loved being outdoors and was a nature nut. He enjoyed digging ginseng and wildflowers and being in the mountains that he loved so much. Phillip also loved to cook for others and he could make the most wonderful meals from anything you put in front of him. This was another gift that God gave him. Phillip's heart was pure gold and he would give you his last bite, his last dollar and the shirt off his back. He often failed to realize just how wonderful he truly was and just how much he meant to others.
