Peggy Sue Sparks Simmons, age 72, longtime Greensboro resident, died at Ashton Place Health and Rehab on April 30, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born December 16, 1944 in Johnson City , TN to Frank and Eva Sparks, Peggy grew up in Bakersville , NC and graduated from Bowman High School . Peggy then attended Warren Wilson College and was particularly proud when she completed her BA degree at Greensboro College in 1991. Peggy married and has one son, Charles Lee (Chuck) Simmons.
Peggy worked as an accountant. Her last job was at Key Risk Management Services, Inc. with the "best group of people you could ever work with".
Peggy was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church where she was an Elder for a time. She will be remembered for her involvement with various single groups in the Greensboro area including Parents Without Partners and dances for singles over 50. She had a great love for photography, NASCAR racing, and nature.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her son, Chuck, several cousins and a great number of friends.
At 11 a. m. on Monday, May 8, 2017 , a graveside service will be held at Green Young Cemetery in Bakersville , NC for family and friends. At 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017 , there will be a memorial service at Memorial Presbyterian Church, Greensboro , NC .
Peggy said that she hopes to be remembered as a kind, compassionate listening person for other people and a smiling friendly person who helped others.
