Nina Silver Turbyfill, born August 2, 1920, daughter of  the late Fred E. and Edna Jarrett Silver, passed away on Saturday October 10, 2015 at the CarePartners Solace Center in Asheville, NC.  She attended grammar school in Bandana, NC and graduated from Bowman High School in Bakersville, NC. Nina then attended Lee's McRae College and graduated from Grace Hospital School of Nursing in Banner Elk, NC before joining the Army Nursing Corp in October 1942,  where she was stationed in Fort Bragg, NC and C.B.I. Theater Nursing in the 18th Field Hospital, 181st General Hospital in India and 172nd General Hospital in China, returning to the U.S. and was discharged on February 1946 with the rank of First Lieutenant. Later she worked in Charlotte Memorial Hospital, Williams Clinic, and Spruce Pine Community Hospital, retiring after forty years of nursing as a R.N.

Nina was active in the American Legion, Snow Hill Baptist Church W.M.U. and as a teacher, Penland Homemakers Club, and school PTA.

Survivors include her son, Charles Lewis Turbyfill and wife Elaine Boyd of Bakersville; daughter, Jane Turbyfill Norton and husband David of Lynchburg, VA; sister, Bobbie Stack of Pensacola, FL; brother, Ted Silver of Garner, NC; grandchildren: Charlie, Jesse, Tressie and Joseph Norton; great grandchildren: Gabriel Kage Norton, James Lewis Norton, Sandra Jane Norton and Christine Daphne Norton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis W. Turbyfill and two brothers: Guy and Harry Silver.

There will be graveside services for Mrs. Turbyfill on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at 3:00 pm in the Snow Hill Cemetery with Dean Honeycutt and Mark McKinney officiating. Memorials may be made to the Snow Hill Baptist Church or Snow Hill Cemetery Fund.
