Milt Cole, age 94 of John Canipe Rd, Bakersville, NC passed away peacefully on February 24, 2014 at his home. He was a son of the late John Dennie and Etta Forbes Cole and was retired from The North Carolina State Highway Dept. where he worked in Bridge Construction. Milt was a Veteran of The United States Army where he served in the Aleutian Islands during WWII . He was a member of Vians Valley Presbyterian Church. Milt was a loving husband, father and "Poppee" to us all. We loved him and he loved us and we knew it.

Survivors include; his wife Nellie Phillips Cole, of the home, three sons; Joseph Milton Cole and wife Ann, of Spruce Pine, NC, Robert Edward Cole and wife Janie, and John Mark Cole and wife Katie, all of Bakersville, NC, one sister; Betty Cole of West Jefferson, NC, one brother; Anion Cole of West Jefferson, NC, five grandchildren; Mark Cole, Adam Cole, Sarah Mace, Amanda Ellis, and Shania Burleson, six great grandchildren: Cole Correll, Jaiden Correll, Caleb Cole, Gavin Cole, Conner Cole and Hunter Burleson.

He was also preceded in death by; a son; David Cole, sister, Viola Wood; brothers: John Dennie Cole Jr. and Hiram Bailey.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 26, 2014 in the chapel of Henline – Hughes Funeral Home at 7:30PM , with Bob Simes and Bill Mitchell officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM until the service time. Interment will be Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 1:00PM at Slagle Cemetery ( John Canipe Rd ).
