Mildred McKinney "Micky" Rivers, age 98, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2014 in Unicoi County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care. She was born in 1916 to Will and Bessie McKinney of Bakersville, North Carolina . She was raised in Bakersville and resided most of her adult life in Charlotte , North Carolina . In 2002 she moved to Erwin , Tennessee where she had been lovingly cared for by her sister, Willie.

Mildred attended Mitchell County schools, graduating from Bowman High, Pfeiffer Jr. College , and Appalachian State Teachers College in Boone , NC . She received her Masters Degree in Home Economics and taught school for many years, first in Spruce Pine, later in Kings Mountain , and for many years in Charlotte , NC .

Mildred was a Christian and of the Baptist faith. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church , Charlotte .

Mildred was preceded in death by, in addition to her parents, two sisters: Helen McKinney and Louise Garland; one brother, Benton McKinney. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd E. Rivers.

Survivors include one sister, Willie "Bill" McKinney Ray of Erwin , TN ; one sister in law, Marie McKinney of Bakersville and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow in the McKinney Cove Church Cemetery, Bakersville, NC. Rev John Kuhne will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the staff of Pine Oaks Assisted Living Community in Johnson City , UCMH Long Term Care, and Caris Hospice for the loving care they helped provide for Mildred.
