Maxine Barnett Garland, age 77 of North Roan Street, Johnson City, TN went home to be with the Lord, December 27, 2017 . A daughter of the late Reverend Calvin and Rita Peterson Barnett she was a native of Mitchell County, NC. She was a member of Beans Creek Church of Jesus Christ. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Survivors include: her husband Ernest H. Garland, of the home, two sons; Richard D. Garland (Betty), of Baltimore, MD, and Roger C. Garland, of Johnson City, TN, one daughter Teresa L. Curtis, of Johnson City, TN, four sisters; Edna Garland, Charlotte Maxwell, Carrie Pritchard, and Carolyn Oaks, seven brothers; Arnold, Gaylan, Michael, David, Danny, Jackie, and Jerry Barnett. four grandchildren; Jessica Trent, James Curtis, Patty Garland, and Tommy Garland, five great grandchildren; Shannon Peterson, Evan Peterson, Kadynn Trent, Taylor and Colt Garland.

She was preceded in death in addition to her parents a brother Cratus Barnett.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 2:00PM in the chapel of Henline - Hughes Funeral Home with G.B. Garland officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Fork Mountain Cemetery ( Fork Mountain Rd. Bakersville , NC 28705 ).
