Maxie Garland Hughes age 76 of Marbleton Rd , Unicoi , TN passed away Thursday, July 30, 2015 . She was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a daughter of the late Mack and Grace McKinney Garland . She was a member of Unicoi United Methodist Church and was retired as a Recreation Director with The Veterans Administration in Johnson City , TN. Her favorite hobbies were shopping and auctions.

Survivors include: one sister, Lena Mae Greene of Bakersville, NC, one niece, Shirley Edwards, of Spruce Pine, NC, cousin, Margaret Hoilman, of Bakersville, NC, cousin and special caregivers; Mike and Carolyn Hoilman of Unicoi, TN, a special pet boxer, Roxie.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Lee Hughes, and a son, Tim Hughes.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 3, 2015 at 8:00PM in Unicoi United Methodist Church with Dr. Henry Johnson, Rev. Gary Edwards, and Pastor Roger G. Mathess officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Interment will be Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at 11:00AM at McKinney Cemetery .
