Mary Magdalene McKinney, age 89 of McKinney Cove Rd, Bakersville, NC went home to be with the Lord, July 15, 2015 . She was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a daughter of the late Kelsie and Vallie Willis Grindstaff.

She was the oldest member of McKinney Cove Baptist Church and was retired as a seamstress at Modern Globe.

Survivors include:  two daughters; Mary L. Thomas, and husband Reverend Tommy, of Spruce Pine, NC, Charlene Grindstaff, of Bakersville, NC, one son, Phillip McKinney, of Bakersville, NC, one brother, Robert Grindstaff, of Marion, NC, four grandchildren; Carmella Hughes, Terry Grindstaff, Nairia Ponder, and Tara McKinney, eight great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Charlie McKinney, one grandchild, Meritta Thomas, and three brothers; Clifford, Milt, and Blaine .

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 3:00PM in McKinney Cove Baptist Church with Reverend Don Ford and Reverend Todd Ayers officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
