Mary Sue Burleson, 79 of Bakersville passed away peacefully Friday, March 13, 2026 at Spruce Pine Hospital. A native of Mitchell County she was born June 29, 1946. She was a daughter of the late Myrtle Edwards.

In addition to her mother she was preceded in death by her siblings: Sallie, Wade, Kathy, William, Gary, and Diane Edwards.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 61 years Dallas Burleson, son Charles (Elissa), daughter Karen (Ronnie), grandchildren: Clayton Roberts (Jessica), Savannah Brewer (Andrew), and Jamison Burleson (Carein), great grandchildren: Addyson, Maverick, Ainsley, Trinity, Clara, and Weston Charles, brothers: Junior and David (Vickie) Edwards, sister Debbie Ricker, and many special nieces and nephews.

Mary Sue fought many battles in her life, one battle she never had to fight was the love of her family. Sue could often be found at Burleson Park fellowshipping, and dancing with friends. Her inspiration of music will continue through her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She professed her love of our Lord through her guitar playing and her singing of old time hymns. She was a member of Cub Creek Baptist Church, she attended Cornerstone Church of Mine Creek, and Friendship Chapel of the Red Hill Community.

Sue had many interests in life. When inspired she could be found in her upstairs painting beautiful pictures or reading a Louis L'Amour novel, or outside working in her flower gardens. Her passion for flower gardening will always be cherished by her family, especially her daughter, Karen.

Mary Sue was a very kind-hearted person with a loving gentle spirit. She was a friend to many, a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved visitors, enjoyed talking and revisiting stories of years past.

The family would like to express a very special thanks to her caretaker Lora Love and Hospice and Home Care of The Blue Ridge.

A celebration of Sue's life is planned for April 26, 2026 at 2:00PM at Bailey Cemetery on Johns Sparks Road, Bakersville, NC.
