Mary Hughes Adkins, age 84 of Midland, NC passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. A native of Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Mary Miller Hughes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Dwight Adkins; sisters, Barbara Ann Hughes and Virginia Taylor and her brother, Johnny Hughes.

Mary and Dwight were always quick to show their hospitality. Their home was always open to family and friends. Mary was an excellent cook and her home was where everyone loved to gather.  She also fed many children in her years working in the school cafeteria.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Tammy Bonds (Darrell Armstrong), Michelle Poe (Tony), and Abigail O'Daniel (Michael); sister, Janice Williams (R L); brothers, Tim Hughes (Janice), Tony Hughes (Jane), and Danny Hughes (Loretta); also surviving are her seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 12:30 PM in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Chad Hensley officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and burial will be in the Huntdale Cemetery.
