Lou Etta Duvall Callahan, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on May 27, 2026, at the age of 83. A lifelong native of Mitchell County, North Carolina, Lou Etta was the beloved daughter of the late Noah and Lucy Hoilman Duvall.
A devoted member of Toecane Baptist Church, Lou Etta found joy in the simple blessings of life—tending to her flowers, cooking and canning, and nurturing her garden. Her love for the Lord was mirrored by her deep devotion to her family and friends, who were the center of her world.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 64 years, Mack Callahan Jr.; her children, Mark (Joanne), Anita Goforth (Dewayne), Mack (Susan), and Lou Ella Callahan Street; grandchildren Caleb and Alex Goforth, Matthew and Marissa Trull, and Brooke Lovins; and her great-grandchild, Archie Mack Goforth. She also leaves behind her dear siblings Anna Rae Burleson, Billie June Callahan (Ned), and Mary Belle Callahan.
Lou Etta was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Ella Mae Bailey, and her brothers Paul and Jimmy Lee Duvall.
A celebration of Lou Etta’s life will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Cub Creek Baptist Church, with Reverend Skip Weiford officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior as we honor her memory together. Interment will follow at Bailey Cemetery on John Sparks Road.
The Callahan family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Compassionate Care of Western North Carolina and Susie Callahan for their loving support during this time.
Henline Hughes Funeral Service is honored to assist the Callahan family in celebrating Lou Etta’s beautiful life and enduring legacy.
