DATELINE; BAKERSVILLE , NC

Lester Miller, age 93, of Harrell Hill Rd, Bakersville, NC went home to be with his Savior January 17, 2015 . He was a native of Mitchell County, NC and was a son of the late Joe and Bessie Miller.

He was a farmer all his life. He was a lifelong member of Union Hill Freewill Baptist Church where he was a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and bell ringer for many years. He was a World War Two Veteran and served his country proudly. The most important thing in his life was serving God and then his family. He was a friend to everyone and a man with much wisdom and love that was passed down to those that are left behind. He was a model father to his children and papaw to his grandchildren, and paw to his great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by this family, but we will do our best to take the example he left behind and carry on.

Special thanks to his grandson Allen who sacrificed his time to care for him, and to all his grandchildren and great grandchildren that were so special to him.

Survivors include: two daughters; Betty Wilson ( Kenneth) of Green Mountain , NC , Carolyn Sparks (Larry) of Spruce Pine, NC. Three sons: James Miller (Doris), Ricky Miller (Tammy) all of Green Mountain, NC, and Donald Miller (Linda) of Bakersville, NC; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, two sisters; Julia Garland of Bakersville, NC, and Pansy Bennett of Erwin, TN, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; Mae Miller, two sons; Charles and Johnny Miller, three brothers; Hobert, Bernie, and Gentry Miller, and one sister Bertie Simmons.

The family will receive friends Monday, January 19, 2015 from 6:00PM until 8:00PM in Henline - Hughes Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at 2:00PM in Union Hill Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Josh Miller, Rev. Roy Whitson, Rev. Tommy Hensley, and Rev. Cliff McCourry officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Interment will follow at Union Hill Cemetery with Sgt. EL Randolph Chapter 57 DAV conducting graveside military honors.
