Obituary

Dateline: Bakersville, NC

Kenneth M. Poteat, age 82, of Maple Street, Bakersville, NC went home to be with the Lord June 10, 2018. He was a son of the late Edgar and Hessie Willis Poteat and a native of Mitchell County, NC. He was a member of Bakersville Baptist Church and was a United States Marine Corp Veteran having served 21 years and receiving the Purple Heart. He was also previously employed by The Forest service on The Blue Ridge Parkway. He was also a member of The Mount Mitchell Marine Detachment #1266, and the Mitchell County V.F.W.

Survivors include: his wife Betty Ann Poteat, of the home, a daughter; Debra Poteat Webb (John), of Bakersville, NC, two sons; Keith M. Poteat, of Marion, NC, and Kenneth S. Poteat (Elizabeth), of Marion, NC, eight grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by: three sisters; Mary Stanley, Christine Rodriguez, and Frances Jones, and two brothers; Charles and Eddie Poteat.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at 4:00PM in Bakersville Baptist Church with Jim Sutton officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Interment will follow at Bakersville Memorial Cemetery with full military honors being conducted by Sgt. EL Randolph Chapter 57 DAV and The Mount Mitchell Marine Detachment #1266 serving as pallbearers .
