Kenneth Eugene (Gene) Gouge, 70, of Gouge Cove Rd. Bakersville, NC passed away June 4, 2022. He was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a son of the late Brown and Lonnie Vance Gouge. Gene was retired as Maintenance Supervisor for Mitchell County Schools. After retirement Gene transitioned to being a full time "grandpa" which was an easy transition because of the great love he had for all of his family. He enjoyed spending time in the mountains camping and cutting firewood.

Survivors include his wife Diane Gouge, two daughters Melissa Hoilman, of Bakersville, NC and Amanda Honeycutt (Trent), of Green Mountain, NC, sisters Margaret Troutman (Brad), of Mechanicsville, Virginia, Ethel Crawford (Ralph), and Mary Hall (Tommy), all of Bakersville, NC, one brother James Gouge (Calla), of Bakersville, NC, sister in law Judy Gouge, of Bakersville, four grandchildren Isaac and Lexie Hoilman, Emma and Cole Honeycutt, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by his brother Roger Gouge and son in law Chris Hoilman.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at 2:00PM in the chapel of Henline - Hughes Funeral home with Reverends Trent Honeycutt, Mike Peterson, and John McKinney officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Gouge Cemetery.
