Juanita Jane McMahan, 92, of Bakersville, NC, the White Oak Community, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Dollie Whitson Buchanan. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank McMahan, her two brothers, Paul and Phil Buchanan, and two sons, Johnny and Tommy McMahan.

Juanita was a longtime member of White Oak Baptist Church.  In 1976, Juanita and Frank built and established the Gateway Market in Bakersville and operated it for many years where it has become a landmark. She also ran her own catering service and was known all around the area for her delicious cakes and other creations.

Survivors include her son, Jimmy McMahan and wife Peggy; daughters, Ann Webb and husband Bobby, and Billie Harwood; her daughter in law, Carolynn McMahan; grandchildren: Cheri Bridge (Chuck), James McMahan (Rayner), and Justin McMahan (Courtney), Tammy Shell (Mike), Shana Buchanan (Cass), Martin Webb (Christy), Crystal Webb, Travis Shepherd (Kaci), and Robert Shepherd (Annie); great grandchildren: Hudson, Taylor, Finley, Arlin, Braley, Adline, Landon, Levi, and Justice; also several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Sunday, January 14, 2024 in the White Oak Baptist Church. Officiating ministers will be Jason McKinney, Don Ford, and Doug Harrell. The family will receive friends Saturday January 13, 2024 from 4 to 6 PM at Henline-Hughes Funeral Home. Burial will follow the funeral in the Bear Creek Cemetery.
