John McClure Vance, age 53 of Bent Rd, Spruce Pine, NC went home to be with the Lord, September 18, 2018. He was the son of the late Sam and Oakalene Buchanan Vance and a native of Mitchell County, NC. John was a graduate of Mitchell High School and Mayland Community College. John owned and operated Sam Vance Rental for 30 years, and was also a  Licensed North Carolina Electrical Contractor where he owned and operated John M. Vance Electric Inc. for 20 years. He was a member of Western Carolina Church. John touched many lives with his voice and he loved to play and sing. He loved music and was a gifted guitar and bass player. He was a father, brother, church member, leader, and all around amazing man.

Survivors include: his wife; Jennifer Mull Vance, of the home, one son; Christian Thorne Mallatere, United States Navy at Norfolk, Virginia, sisters; Sammie Vance Ellis, of Spruce Pine, NC, Cathy Vance Beam, of Shelby, NC, and Betty Vance Poore, of Jonas Ridge, NC, sister in law; Michelle Mitchell, father and mother in law; Jerry and Pat Mull, three nephews, one niece, five great nieces, and one great nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, in addition to his brother in law Mike Ellis.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 21, 2018 at 5:00PM in Western Carolina Church ( 31 Cross Street Spruce Pine, NC), with Randy Bonner and William Ellis officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30PM until the service time at the church. Private interment will follow the service at Pyatte Cemetery (Stamey Town Rd).
