Joe Lee Young, age 95 of Hwy 226 North, Bakersville, NC went home to be with the Lord December 4, 2020. He was a native of Mitchell County, NC and the son of the late Roby and Nora Wilson Young. He was a member and chairman of Deacons at Roan Mountain Baptist Church. Joe graduated from Bowman High School and was owner operator of Buchanan and Young Service Station in Bakersville, NC. He was also co-owner of Buchanan and Young Automotive Dealership in Bakersville, NC which later moved to Burnsville, NC.

Joe was very active in and loved his community. He was a member of the board of directors for The Bakersville Medical Clinic, The Bakersville Fire Department, and was the chairman of the cemetery committee for Green Young Cemetery, and also a former member of Bakersville Lions Club. Joe and his wife Nell were instrumental to the development of the Bakersville Creekwalk.

Survivors include one daughter, Suzanne Owens, of Bakersville, NC, three sisters: Mary Anna Whitson, Lillie Byers, and Jean Dale, one grandson, Joseph Clayton Ledford, and one great grandchild, Locklin Todd Vance.

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by his wife Nell Buchanan Young, one sister Francis Young, and one granddaughter Jennifer Ann Ledford.

A viewing will be held Tuesday, December 8, 2020 from 1:00 until 3:00PM in Henline - Hughes Funeral Home.
