Obituary

Dateline; Frederick, MD

J. L. Hobson, age 86 of Copper Oaks Place, Frederick, MD, passed away August 7, 2015. He was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a son of the late Baxter and Nellie Jane Buchanan Hobson. He was retired from Sparrows Point Shipyard as a Paint Supervisor.

J.L. was born in Fork Mountain, Mitchell County, NC.  He was the 6 th child of 8 siblings.  At a young age he moved to Baltimore Maryland to pursue a career at Sparrows Point Ship Yard.  During his career, he worked himself up to becoming a Paint Shop Supervisor. He retired after 27 years of service, and remained living in Baltimore until the death of his second wife in 2001.  After her death he moved to Woodsboro, MD to live with his daughter, Sue, and son-in-law.

One of his favorite past times was mowing the grass in Woodsboro on his Cub Cadet tractor.    He also loved singing songs that he would make up for the benefit of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He relished playing penny-ante with his grandchildren.  Although he liked to win their pennies, but always gave it back at the end of the game.  One of our most enjoyable memories was celebrating his 70 th birthday in Nashville, TN with Mike and Sue.

He enjoyed the company of his pet dogs.

Survivors include: two daughters; Judy Martin (Aubrey), of Frederick, MD, and Sue McCreery (Michael), of Woodsboro, MD, a sister, Barbara Buchanan, of Bakersville, NC, six grandchildren; Paul Porreca, Sarah Cowles, William Prettyman, Dorothy Drummond, Jean Ann Hottinger, and Edward Drummond, and eleven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by; sisters; Joan Conley, and Polly Hoilman, and brothers; Arthur, Herman, Hemel, and Fritz Hobson.

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 1:00PM in the chapel of Henline - Hughes Funeral Home with Marvin Miller officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Baxter Hobson Cemetery.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Citizens Care Center for all the loving attention and care provided. The family would extend their thanks for all the prayers and encouragement we received during the last years of his life.
