Jerrie Bennett Whitson, 75, of Burnsville, NC went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 11, 2018 in the Mitchell House in Spruce Pine, NC. A native of Mitchell County , she was the daughter of the late Sam and Nettie Edwards Bennett. Jerrie was a member of the West Burnsville Church of God and she will always be remembered as a wonderful cook who loved her family and her great sense of humor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Gene Murphy and Forest Whitson; her sister, Evelyn Ray, and brothers: Glenn, Ray, Clay, James, Jack, Bill, and Junior Bennett. Jerrie was a former employee of OMC and Baxter's.

Survivors include her daughter, Veronica Murphy Gilley and husband Jimmy of Burnsville; sister, Betty Honeycutt of Burnsville and brother, Lee Bennett of Green Mtn , NC ; grandchildren: Mandy Young, Caleb Young and Abby Gail Gilley, and step granddaughter, Ashley Burleson and husband Nathan; step great grandchildren: Zander, Norah and Corban.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 14, 2018 from 5 to 7 pm at Henline-Hughes Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 7 pm with Rev. Tim Campbell officiating. Interment will be 11:00 am Thursday in the Huntdale Cemetery on Hwy 197, Green Mtn, NC. Memorials may be made to the family to help with funeral expenses.
